King Britt can be viewed as a true deep house visionary, but his story does not even hint at stopping there. The Philadelphia native’s fusion of house, hip-hop, broken beat, nu-jazz and afro-tech has inspired many a dancer’s get-your-groove-on along with many DJ and producer’s sonic offerings, ever since his seminal underground 12-inch “Tribal Confusion” hit the streets via Strictly Rhythm recordings in 1990. The onetime DJ for Digable Planets also heads-up the Sylk130 group and has so since 1994, performing with the ensemble which includes Ursula Rucker among a dozen other Philly-based musicians.

More recently, Britt has produced solo records for the influential BBE/ Rapster Records label (including the hip-hop hit Adventures in Lo-Fi, 2002) as well as Compost Records with his Kraftwerk-inspired tech-house album The Nova Dream Sequence (2006). In between he’s graced artist efforts with his unique remix touch, reworking singles from Macy Gray, Tori Amos, Yoko Ono and Femi Kutti. He’s diversified in the past year or so, with completed remixes for Dizzie Gilespie, Everything But the Girl, Ben Watt and Curtis Mayfield. His work as a composer hasn’t gone unnoticed; he was brought on to create underscore and interpretations for the Michael Mann hit film “Miami Vice” last year. Currently, his label and consulting company FiveSixMedia is making the rounds, combining music remixing and production with lifestyle marketing, music programming and artist management.

King Britt mixes the fourth installment of Deep and Sexy on François K’s Wave Music imprint, out March 20, 2007.
