Deekline and Wizard

Posted date: April 2006

Deekline and Wizard, aka Nick Annand and Greg Fleming, are a fresh-faced duo from the United Kingdom that together, have been tearing things—from the underground—up for some years now. Most recently, comprehensive website breakspoll.com, home to the International Breakbeat Awards, nominated them in three categories for their 2006 round: Best Producer, Best Single (“All Your Love”) and Outstanding Contribution to Breaks.   They’re about to take the States by storm, beginning with a stint at UMF’s Future Sound of Breaks Tent. And many will attest that you don’t jump from pond to pond for nothing.

Deekline, who was inspired at an early age by funk and electro, made his mark upon the music world with his first release “Don’t Smoke the Reefer,” a popular track filled with breaks and loud bass. He has collaborated with legendary producer Arthur Baker, as well as Freq Nasty and was also chosen to officially remix Ol’ Dirty Bastard’s track “Want Your Money.” He continues to gain mass appeal in the UK, making club nights such as Breakbeat Connection and Thursday Night Shakedown quake until the wee hours of the morning.

Wizard, aptly nicknamed for his magic proficiency in the studio, found himself at work early on in his career in the studio with New Order and the Chemical Brothers.  The past two years have seen him becoming a force to be reckoned with, adding his breaks touch to artist albums for Lady Sovereign and M.I.A. He’s also remixed the Rolling Stones, Britney Spears and Usher. His tracks are filled with deep dark bass lines and a feverish, grimy aura that will make you sweat and do nasty things. This lethal combination makes their sets an experience in itself.

Things will only get better for this dynamic and energetic duo, as Miami won’t be the only place heating up after they drop their upcoming second album, featuring vocals and collaborations from the likes of Yolanda, DJ Assault (yeah, that one). Just get up, dance, and enjoy the ride.
