Onbeat - You'll be headlining at America's only music festival devoted moreover to dance music. Most festivals have a reverse kind of set-up, where rock and roll bands dominate the main stage and electronica is relegated to side dance tents. How do you feel that part of your musical tastes and background will fit-in with all the dance music?

Robert Smith - WE LOVE NEW EXPERIENCES AND ARE DELIGHTED TO BE HEADLINING ULTRA. WE FEEL THE CURE HAVE HAD A LONG AND HAPPY RELATIONSHIP WITH 'DANCE MUSIC' DOWN THE YEARS - IT APPEARS ULTRA FEELS THE SAME WAY?!!

YES! WE ARE GOING FOR A PRETTY UPBEAT SHOW...

Are there any remixers or producers that have caught your attention from the last decade of dance music?

Do you listen to current dance music?

EVEN THOUGH I CAN'T DANCE...YES I DO! BUT I HAVE TO ADMIT MY FAVOURITE
STUFF IS STILL MAINLY FROM THE ‘90S...EAT STATIC, BANCO DE GAIA, FUTURE
LOOP FOUNDATION, MOLOKO, BOWERY ELECTRIC, THE PRODIGY, THE ORB ... YOU GET THE VIBE?!! I AM A NOSTALGIC AT HEART...

You've been known to release remixed albums in the past, even before remixers were considered de rigueur. How do you feel about the current 'electronic' music coming out these days?

I LOVE THE MIX OF ELECTRONIC AND 'REAL' WHEN IT IS DONE REALLY WELL - FOR EXAMPLE BY NINE INCH NAILS...AND I AM PARTICULARLY LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING SHINY TOY GUNS NEXT WEEK

How about the art of the remix?

WE HAVE BEEN FORTUNATE TO HAVE HAD SOME OF THE BEST REMIXES EVER - BY MASTERS OF THE ART SUCH AS PAUL OAKENFOLD, WILLIAM ORBIT, FRANCOIS KEVORKIAN, MARK SAUNDERS AND BRYAN 'CHUCK' NEW... BUT WE HAVE ALSO BEEN SUBJECTED TO THE DARKER SIDE OF THE REMIX WORLD - <SCENE DELETED>!!! - AS WITH ANYTHING, REMIXES CAN BE PRETTY HIT OR MISS...WHEN A REMIX WORKS, IT PULLS SOMETHING UNLIKELY AND FAB FROM A SONG YOU THOUGHT YOU ALREADY KNEW...

Are any current dance acts influencing or working on your current release?

THERE WILL DEFINITELY BE REMIXES OF NEW CURE SONGS THIS YEAR - AND A
'MIXED UP 2' ALBUM WILL BE OUT NEXT YEAR AS AN 'EXTRA DISC' WITH THE
REMASTERED RE-RELEASE OF OUR ORIGINAL 'MIXED UP' (1990)
